Privacy Policy
Effective August 18, 2026 · Applies to the Balance app for iPhone and to this website.
The short version
- Balance has no server. Your accounts, debts, transactions and recurring bills are stored in your iPhone's own database and never leave it.
- There is no account to create: we never ask for your email, phone number or name to use the app.
- No analytics, no ads, no trackers, and no third-party SDKs inside the app.
- The iCloud backup is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, the copy goes to your own iCloud account, not to us.
- We never see, sell or share your financial information. We couldn't: it never reaches us.
1. Who is responsible
Balance is an app developed independently by Andrés Rodríguez. For any question about this policy, write to info@balancefinancial.tech.
2. What the app stores, and where
Everything you enter in Balance is stored locally on your device, using the system database (SwiftData), inside the app's protected container:
| What | Examples | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Accounts and debts | Name, type, balance, card limit, rate | Your iPhone |
| Transactions | Amount, date, category, note, account | Your iPhone |
| Categories | Name, color, icon | Your iPhone |
| Recurring bills | Amount, due day, paid or not | Your iPhone |
| Preferences | Reminders on/off, days ahead, time of day, backup on/off | Your iPhone |
This data is never transmitted to a server of ours, because none exists. The only way it leaves your phone is if you turn on the iCloud backup, in which case it goes to your own Apple account (section 4).
3. What Balance does not do
- It does not connect to your bank or any financial institution. No Open Banking, no Plaid, no statement scraping.
- It does not create user accounts and never asks you to sign in.
- It uses no third-party analytics, measurement, attribution or crash-reporting tools.
- It shows no ads and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). That is why you will never see the "allow tracking" prompt.
- It does not sell, rent or share personal information with anyone.
- It does not access your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, calendar or health data.
On the App Store privacy labels, Balance is declared as "Data Not Collected."
4. iCloud backup (optional)
Balance offers a backup that mirrors your database into your private iCloud (CloudKit), the same way Notes or Reminders do.
- It ships off. It only turns on if you enable it in the app's Settings.
- The copy is stored in the private database of your own Apple account. The developer of Balance has no access to it and cannot read, export or restore it.
- It exists so your data survives a new iPhone or a reinstall, and so it looks the same across your devices signed in to the same Apple account.
- While it is on, iOS may use Apple's silent push notifications to tell the app there are changes to sync. That mechanism is operated by Apple and carries no data of ours.
- Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
You can turn it off any time in the app's Settings (it takes effect the next time you open Balance), and delete the copy from iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Balance.
5. Due-date reminders
If you enable them, Balance schedules local notifications: they are created and scheduled on your own iPhone, from data already stored there. They do not pass through any messaging server of ours, and nothing about your bills is sent to anyone. You can revoke the notifications permission at any time in iOS Settings.
6. Purchases: Balance Pro
Balance Pro is sold as an in-app purchase (monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime payment). Purchases are processed by Apple, through the App Store and StoreKit.
- The app never sees or receives your card, your payment details or your Apple account identifier. It only asks the system whether you have an active purchase, and that answer stays on the phone.
- Price and currency are set by the store of your account's country.
- As a developer, Apple provides aggregated, anonymous sales reports; they cannot identify any individual.
- The handling of your purchase, receipts and subscription is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy. Subscriptions are managed and cancelled from your Apple account settings.
7. This website
- No cookies and no analytics. There are no tracking pixels and no visitor profiling.
- No forms. The page asks you for nothing: there is no waitlist, no sign-up and no newsletter. The only thing you can send us is an email, and if you do, that message is kept for as long as it takes to help you (section 10).
- Fonts: this page loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers and they may see your IP address and browser type. Google receives no other data about you from us.
- Hosting: the page is served by Vercel, which keeps standard technical logs (IP, timestamp and page requested) for security and operations. We do not consult them to profile anyone.
8. Children
Balance is not directed to children under 13, and it collects no information from anyone, of any age. If you are a parent or guardian with questions, please write to us.
9. Your rights and how to exercise them
Because your data lives on your device, you control it directly — no request to us, no waiting:
- Access and correct: open the app; everything is there and editable.
- Delete: remove accounts, transactions or bills inside the app, or uninstall Balance to erase the whole local database. If you used the backup, also delete it from iCloud settings (section 4).
- Portability: we share nothing with third parties, so there is nothing to reclaim beyond your phone.
If laws such as the EU GDPR, the California CCPA/CPRA or Mexico's federal data protection law (ARCO rights) apply to you, the steps above are the practical way to exercise them. For the one thing that does pass through our hands — the emails you send us — a written request to info@balancefinancial.tech is enough.
10. How long data is kept
App data is kept for as long as you keep it on your phone (and in your iCloud, if you turned the backup on). Emails you send us are kept for as long as the conversation lasts and up to a year afterwards, in case you write again about the same thing. You can ask for them to be deleted sooner.
11. Security
Balance's database lives inside the app's protected container, isolated from other apps by iOS, and benefits from the device's own encryption when you have a passcode set. The backup travels encrypted to your iCloud. No system is perfect: keeping your iPhone updated and passcode-protected is the best protection for your data.
12. Changes to this policy
If Balance changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will also be announced inside the app.
13. Contact
